About that Sotomayor comment

June 2, 2009

“I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.” ~Sonia Sotomayor at a 2001, speech at UC Berkeley

We “right-wing nutjobs” are having trouble understanding this?  We’re “taking it out of context”?

Well, apparently, so is Barack Obama as he amazingly chose the very person to imply that “empathy” was an important quality for a Supreme Court Justice.  In fact, one so important that it elicits “better conclusions”.

And I quote: “We need somebody who’s got the heart–the empathy–to recognize what it’s like to be a young teenage mom. The empathy to understand what it’s like to be poor or African-American or gay or disabled or old–and that’s the criteria by which I’ll be selecting my judges.”
